Supporting someone with mental illness can be a rewarding but difficult role. Sometimes when you’re busy supporting a person you love, it’s a struggle to meet your own needs. A common challenge is finding balance in daily life. Discovering meaningful ways to connect, be active, take notice, give and keep learning can help you to regain balance and improve your wellbeing. Another common challenge for family members is accepting and expressing feelings of loss, sadness and grief about the mental illness of their loved one. However, giving yourself permission to process grief and loss is really important for your wellbeing. Caring for yourself is an important part of your caring role.
Your Wellbeing is a toolkit to support people who have a loved one with mental illness. It aims to enhance the quality of family members’ everyday life and wellbeing by:
The Weekly Wellbeing Planner has been created to help you plan for greater balance and wellbeing. By filling in your responsibilities each week it provides a clear picture of what you need to do each day, as well as ensures you have time to engage in activities that will contribute to your wellbeing. To complete the wellbeing column you may like to choose from activities selected under each of the wellbeing tabs or choose another activity that lets you be you for a part of each day.
